Local community involvement is a vital asset and activity for effectiveness in public office. When a person is engaged in the community, they are both accessible and informed. Having served our community in elected public office for more than 20 years while being a self employed businessman at the same time, I have learned that community involvement is essential to my effectiveness to serve ALL of us.
All governments need to understand and always remember that the funds they have available for their use for public purposes is generated by commerce. Business activity creates revenue and jobs. Governments do not.
